Invest in A Future

It's a big challenge to invest in A future in a country with such deep social problems, serious economical problems, during a transition period which never seems to end.

But because we met such dedicated, smart doctors, enthusiastic youth from the church and gifted children in the orphanages and hospital and because we love and trust in Romania, we wanted to do the best for its future.

We know that the computer has a big potential for the future therefore we had no hesitation in offering many computers to poor children, being sure that this would be helpful for their future.

Now we know that because of the computers, Mihaela a very poor and unlucky girl succeeded to find a job.

Adrian, because of a series of operations, never attended
a primary school, made huge progress working with the computer and now he has had an offer of a job in Victor Babes Hospital.

Roxana, Epurais and Elena, all wheelchair children, can attend special courses for the computer because our project offered them a personal computer.

Lawside Romania Project wanted to invest in their future and we are not disappointed in them as we were not disappointed in the many others to whom we donated a computer.

As teachers, we recognise that education is the root of
a better life so we decided to pay teachers to educate a child who was unable to go to school.

Many orphans and poor children have been encouraged to continue their education in school and University
and are being supported by Lawside Romania Project
regarding books, clothes...

The playrooms organised and sponsored by Lawside Romania Project (we pay qualified persons to work with children) are a means of education as well as enjoyment.

Thanks to God we have much valuable and educational equipment given to us by generous people from the U.K.

We could never ignore the problems we found in one outstanding school for blind children.

Therefore, Lawside invested in the future of these lovely children.

We offered computer keyboards, walkman devices and other equipment to this school with one hundred and forty children. There are unforgettable moments like when these blind children, led by the director, organised a special party to show their gratitude. You cannot imagine how much love these children could offer us.

We were surprised to see the poor conditions in the emergency unit, the surgery rooms and the intensive care department in our hospital. We considered that, to improve these areas would be a good investment in the future.

With great financial help from The Union of the Sisters of Mercy, the “My Weekly” readers and Dundee Football Club we succeeded to modernise all these places what a change in the building, in the equipment but, most of importantly, what a change in staff attitudes so uplifted were they by the new atmosphere.

The non-official names given by the staff to these modernised places tell everything! What do you think of the intensive care unit being named “The Five Star Hotel” or one surgery room named “Casablanca” while the other's title is “Monte Carlo”.

One of the nicest surprises for us was the meetings with the youth of St. Therese Church. They always respond with eagerness to all our calls, with the same joy they sing for the children in the oncology department or they clean up the babies in any part of the hospital, where necessary.

We are amazed, at times, by the way these young people enter into the joys and sorrows of parents and children alike.

We are so proud and grateful to see them chatting, smiling or crying with these unhappy children and the suffering mothers.

They are already active associates in our work and we believe this involvement will ultimately bear fruit in their own lives. We feel also that all our efforts to invest in the future are worth while.

The words of St. John of the Cross inspire us to keep on keeping on spreading God's love where so much suffering prevails.

“Pour in love
Where there is no love
And you will draw love out!”
